School Lunch Program
Undernutrition in school-age children has proven to be responsible for poor academic performance as well as declined work capacity, and poor health/reproductive function later in life. Studies have shown that the prevalence of stunted growth and underweight school age children in Nigeria, ranges from 20% to as high as 50% with geographical variations.
More so, schoolchildren in remote rural areas are less likely to have access to high-protein meals needed for optimal growth and brain development due to financial constraints.
SSI embarks on alleviating this by initiating a school feeding program with a target of at least one high-protein meal per student daily.

With financial assistance, donations, and support from the public and institutions, SSI will be able to achieve its goal of serving at least ten resource-poor nursery/elementary schools in each local government area regionally.

School Feeding Program, Bright Star Nursery, and Elementary School
Umucheke rural community, Ideato South Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria
This pilot project started on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, giving the students one high-protein meal per week. About two hundred students, ages 1 to 12 years, ten teachers and caretakers are enrolled in the program.
The ideal frequency target for this project is one high-protein meal per person daily and serving up to five thousand schoolchildren in the entire local government area. However, this is not feasible presently due to limited funds
